Event Details
PENSACOLA - ITGULFCOAST, an Information Technology Association for the Gulf Coast, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Downtown Pensacola.

Jason Corey, who is a Client Executive for Red Hat Inc/,  will explain how and why the open source model builds higher quality, more secure and more easily integrated software. Jason will also discuss why, with increasingly constrained budgets, companies and government organizations alike are moving away from proprietary models to the open source model.

Open Source Model – Is it right for your company?

Have you spotted a bug in software and wanted to dig into the code to fix it? Or have you ever worked with a software that if you could only have access to the source code you ‘tweek’ it a little to better fit the needs of your organization? Advocates of open source believe that the benefits of Open Source do not just include bug fixing and customization but improved security, improved translation, avoidance of ‘lock-in’ and let’s not forget the even important lower cost.

Jason will share the history and the future of open source code. He will also provide real world of examples of how open source is being used by organizations of all sizes and types and why open source vendors like Red Hat have experienced and expect to continue to experience incredible growth.
